For air cadets in Central & Southern Scotland, the opportunities to experience gliding in a safe positive environment are simply the best. 661 Volunteer Gliding School is one of 27 Air Cadet Gliding Schools operating throughout the UK and one of only three in Scotland.
This website is designed to provide an insight for squadron staff, air cadets, and their parents; by providing an overview of the school, its staff, its proud history, and the range of opportunities available.
The school offers a complete range of challenging and exciting gliding courses for air cadets from introductory "Gliding Induction" through to "Gliding Scholarships" and "Advanced Training" in furtherance of the published aims of the air cadet organisation:
- to promote and encourage among young men and women a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force
- to provide training which will be useful both in Services and in civil life
- to foster the spirit of adventure
- to develop the qualities of leadership and good citizenship
The opportunity of a lifetimeIf you are an air cadet in South & Central Scotland, you are eligible to apply for a gliding course at a 661 which is situated near Edinburgh & Glasgow, of course there other schools in Scotland; 662 at Arbroath and 663 at Kinloss ensuring that wherever you live the air cadet organisation offers the opportunity of a lifetime. 13-16 year old's have the chance throughout the year to attend the school for gliding induction courses, 16-21 year olds can apply directly for a Gliding Scholarship course, either by using the on-line application form or by asking their CO to nominate them for a course.
